The Teach Your Parents climate initiative

I co-founded Teach Your Parents (TYP) with my children to engage children in climate conversations through our Art + Climate workshops, climate comics and animations. Our first edition in 2023 involved more than 750 children from Canada and India, with selected children’s paintings exhibited at Ottawa’s Trinity Art Gallery.

In 2025–26, we held a four-and-a-half-month exhibition and community engagement programme at the Arnprior and District Museum. With partnerships spanning five Ontario museums and multiple schools in 2026–27, the initiative continues to reach urban and rural communities across Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley. Our international connections include participating schools in India and children’s artwork published in schoolbooks in Brazil.

Through workshops and formal art exhibitions, children share their hopes, concerns and ideas for change with wider audiences. TYP has received support from the City of Ottawa and coverage from CBC, The Globe and Mail and Rogers TV. A paper about the project was published in the Canadian Journal of Children’s Rights in 2024.
