Artist's Statement (Even a Blue Cow)

This series is fairly indulgent- an exhibition of doubts, fears and temptations.

The pictures are set in a land of bright flowers and big trees. Some emphasis is paid to the aptness of gender but none to the appropriateness of species- so a woman can love a bull elephant and a man can marry a daffodil. Viewed in this light, and with the use of traditional metaphors, these pretty landscapes have a story to tell.

Some of the works-
Anyone can, under the right tree
Even a blue cow

Birds and bees, flowers and the butterflies- all symbols of fertility, indicate what might happen next.
From the cast shadow, one can see that the bull is standing just outside the picture frame.

One had a cow and the tree/
The other road was free

He has enough reasons to get into a relationship- companionship (the cow), tradition (the road), comfort (the tree), and propagation (the flowers). And one reason not to get into it - 'the other road is free'.
Is the woman with five hands a goddess or a demon or just keen to produce a big hug?

A big, blue flower
So our hero has chosen. Now he's on the tree. The blue woman is now the blue flower. Is he is about to dive towards her or is he attempting to fly off? He should be careful that he doesn't lose his balance.
All those adoring deer from the previous pictures now seem a bit hostile and the ground is such a long way down... The blue birds anticipate something's about to give- they hover around.
