B. Working on them

I trained as an architect at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) in New Delhi. Then studied Visual Communication at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT- Bombay).

It was during my education that the first opportunities to create large-scale works came along. I participated in the execution of 4 murals in the institute on the occasion of Prince Charles's visit to SPA. As part of my thesis at IIT-Bombay, I created an Art installation entitled 'Questioning Man's Creation Myths', spanning two floors of the Industrial Design Centre. The installation utilized circulation patterns to communicate its theme, and comprised wallpapers, paintings, murals, sculptures lying on the floor and hanging from the ceiling, a painted staircase and readymades. I graduated from IIT with the highest graded thesis project.

I have had the opportunity to create large works within architectural settings. While in Bombay, I was comissioned a 30ft. mural for IndianOil's outlet at Sahar International Airport. At Ahara exhibition in New Delhi, the central 80ft tensile structure exhibited tessallating works designed by me.

Another satisfying project was the Magic Software commission for their new office premises in New Delhi. Visitors as they enter, are greeted by a 7x 9ft. dolphin and large glass etchings of underwater scenes. There is a central sculpture of whimsical fish and seaweeds.

Not surprisingly, many of my commissioned works have been by environmental organisations- Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust-UK, UNDP- to name a few.

I readily admit to a love of the strange and the beautiful. I enjoy the light, clean lines of buildings by the Modern masters, and also love the gargoyles of baroque architecture. In my Art I try and emphasize equally the visual form as the content... striving for a unique and hopefully memorable visual image.

My tessellations stem from feelings of claustrophobia and sensory overloads. The urban landscape series looks for unusual perspectives both visually and thematically. And a current stream of work explores technology interventions in Art, through creative distortions in QR codes.
